Breakfast Champion Gets Saucy!
Bacon, sausages, black & white puddings, haggis, steaks galore, pork chops and on and on and on. But what they all really need is a drop of something sweet, something with a tangy kick, something hot and spicy on the side to really make your plate sing and your mouth salivate. Well don't worry because Breakfast Champion is here to help with these five great additions to our range!
Colman's English Mustard
Best mustard in the world, no arguments; by a country mile. Accept no substitutes.
I remember well my parents' German friend, Norbert, visiting the UK and slathering some of this all over his sausages thinking it was the sort of mild, boring, run-of-the-mill mustard found in most of the world. We sat back and waited for the fireworks, the red eyes, the pressure in the sinuses, the tears. We weren't disappointed, and he gets my parents to regularly send some over to Berlin in the post now. Just great stuff, and if you don't believe me then just ask the great man himself; W.G. Grace...
Heinz Tomato Ketchup
I've been in China too long fact; the word ketchup originally comes from Fujian province where it originally meant a kind of fermented fish sauce (Fujian also gave the world the word 'tea'.
Personally I hate the stuff, but I think I'm in the minority considering the eating habits of most people I know. On chips, in a sandwich, on fish fingers, on pretty much anything. My old housemate's diet essentially consisted of different combinations of cheese, bread, and tomato ketchup; he was a big fan.
And if you don't believe my old housemate Chris then just ask...some sort of capitalist caricature/tomato magician it looks like;
HP Sauce
Made from a secret recipe since 1899 this absolutely banging brown sauce is given its tangy kick from the inclusion of that great Indian flavouring tamarind. Great on/with everything from a bacon sandwich, sausages, in a stew, in baked beans, mixed into gravy and so on and so on.
I got into this late when another old housemate of mine, who loved the stuff, put some on my poached eggs on toast without asking (I was massively hungover and so just appreciated the grub) and gained an instant convert. And if you don't believe Raul just ask this really happy vintage school boy...
Heinz Baked Beans
An all-time classic, from Blazing Saddles to arguments about whether they belong in a Full English Breakfast, to curried beans on toast and beyond. One of life's small pleasures.
I don't have a story for this one because baked beans have always just been there. And if you don't believe always just being there, just ask...Steven? Is that you mate?
A1 Steak Sauce
One for the 'Murican's (I was going to say 'Yanks', but one thing living abroad has taught me is that that is a geographically more specific term than I thought, and using it would annoy a good chunk of our customer base) amongst us.
A1 Steak Sauce (or just A1 Original Sauce according to the picture) is a sauce, it's American, and it appears to go with 'steak, pork, and chicken'. I've never heard of it but apparently you guys love it, or so my American colleague informed me earlier today. I'll give it a shot.
And if you don't believe Adrian then just ask His Majesty King George IV apparently...
